The Mount Vernon Housing Authority Board met recently to begin capital projects with grant money received.
After establishing a quorum and approving the minutes, Housing Authority Executive Director Terri Austin informed the board that there are no vacant apartments. She added that a waiting list has been started.
She said that she reviewed the pull cords with tenants. The procedure was reviewed by the board. Austin added that pull cords will be tested weekly to make sure they are working properly and to make remind tenants the service is available.
Sue Lindenberg submitted the Section 8 report for board review. The report stated that 160 families currently use the program. Seven new families recently entered the program. The current waiting list for Section 8 is 10 months.
A request was made to reopen the waiting list effective Aug. 1.
The board also voted to pass a resolution to accept the SEMAP certification.
Austin then reviewed the financial report. The report included the Capital Fund balance for 2005, the Operating Fund balance and checking account balance for the Section 8 account and the Public Housing account.
After some discussion, the Mount Vernon Housing Authority voted to pay the Donovan and Donovan bill.
The board also decided that Martha Phillips will be added to the signature card to replace Nancy Burns on all Housing Authority accounts.
The board tabled the selection of a new vice president until a new member was appointed.
The board reviewed the Cloverleaf 2005 grant projects. The money was recently released to Cloverleaf.
Phillips made the motion to begin work on the plumbing problems on the third and fourth floors, replace sidewalks along the front of the building and fix concrete in back of the building and to purchase three new computers. Shirley Kincheloe provided the second.
Phillips then suggested that the board decide to replace the toilets on each floor as plumbing is replaced.
