The MSD of Mount Vernon School Board met last week to approve bond counsel and corporation counsel for the upcoming proposed school renovation.
The board members read over the information provided by Ice Miller and elected to accept the agreement. The paperwork offered examples of how the cost of bonds would be handled.
After reviewing the information on the bond issuance for the purpose of the upcoming proposed school remodeling project, the board voted to appoint Ice Miller to serve as bond counsel to the Metropolitan School District of Mount Vernon.
The board also appointed Bamberger, Foreman, Oswald, and Hahn, LLP to serve as corporation counsel on the school remodeling project as outlined in the agreement dated Aug. 9.
These items had to be completed to move forward with the project. The approval of bond counsel and corporate counsel have to be approved before any project of this type can commence.
The administration proposed lease financing timetable to the school board. They also discussed the Design Oversight Committee. According to Superintendent Dr. C. Keith Spurgeon, the administration and school board members agreed to consider the members of the Feasibility Study Committee to also take part in the Design Oversight Committee.
Construction management was also discussed. The administration talked about the possibility of hiring a construction management company or someone that would be hired by the district for the duration of the project whose sole purpose is to oversee the construction project. This person would act as a liaison for the school district.
The board accepted the intent to retire from Jerry Dixon effective Aug. 25, and from Ron Suits effective March 16, 2007.
School board members also accepted resignations from Kim Hahn, as a teacher assistant effective Aug. 3; Steve Buchanan, as a teacher effective Aug. 9; Carol Seifert, as a bus attendant effective Aug. 8; Jewelee Kranning, as an extracurricular monitor for second semester of the 2006-07 school year; and Brenda Zoller for half of the assistant swim coach position at the high school effective immediately.
Employments were also confirmed. The board confirmed Beth Walter, as a high school math teacher; Julie Jackson, as girls’ assistant coach track at the junior high school; Karen Bieber, as a teacher assistant/computer lab at Hedges Central; Donald Jackson, as a bus driver; Carol Seifert, as a bus driver; Marcella Stewart, as a bus attendant; and Kathleen Young, as a bus attendant.
Board members contracted with AdTec to file for Universal Service Fund discounts for the funding year 2007-2008 for the contract amount of $3,030.
The board entered into an exclusive beverage agreement with PepsiAmericas, Inc. commencing on Aug. 1, and expiring on Aug. 1, 2012.
The next meeting of the MSD of Mount Vernon School Board will be Tuesday, Sept. 5, at 5:45 p.m. in junior high school media center. This will be the annual budget hearing.
