The Posey County United Way held its annual
meeting Wednesday evening in the Mount
Vernon High School cafeteria.
President Jon Neufelder welcomed those in
attendance before introducing Father Jack
Durchholz for the invocation.
Following the dinner, Neufelder made the
introductions.
First Vice President Larry Williams
recognized the Leadership Givers in the 2006
campaign. Leadership Givers were recognized
on various levels, including Titanium
($1,250 or more); Platinum ($1,000-$1,249);
Gold ($750-$999); Silver ($500-$749); and
Bronze ($250-$499).
Williams will take over as president in
2007. He will have the task of running the
campaign to raise the money to support all
of the agencies the United Way helps fund.
Executive Director Elizabeth Baier then
introduced the agency recipients.
The 2006 agencies of the United Way of Posey
County that were recognized that the dinner
include The Albion Fellows Bacon Center,
American Red Cross-Posey County Chapter,
Buffalo Trace Council-Boy Scouts of American
Inc., Catholic Charities, Children’s
Learning Center of Posey County, Christian
Church Day Care Center, Community Emergency
Assistance, ECHO Health Center,
Goodwill-Resources & Advocacy for the Deaf &
Hard of Hearing, Homeless Shelter of Mount
Vernon Inc, Indiana Legal Services Inc.,
Lampion Center, Mental Health Association in
Vanderburgh County, New Harmony Ministry
Association Inc., Posey County Council on
Aging Inc., Posey County Domestic Violence,
Posey County Group Homes Inc., Posey County
Rehabilitation Services Inc., Posey County
Steps Ahead, The Rehabilitation Center Inc.,
The Salvation Army, Visiting Nurse
Association of Southwestern Indiana Inc. and
WNIN Radio Reading Program.
Mike Walsh, General Manager of Mount Vernon
Manufacturing for GE Plastics, was the
keynote speaker at the event.
He has worked for GE since 1983, after
graduating from Clarkson University with a
BS degree in Chemical Engineering. Walsh
relocated to the Mount Vernon facility in
2001.
Walsh is an active member of the community.
He serves the community in many ways through
local organizations and through various
economic development boards in the area.
Members of the United Way also recognized
General Electric for its significant support
of United Way and other community
organizations and programs. They presented a
special award to Walsh.
“General Electric is a large supporter of
Posey County and its people. I can’t
remember the last time they were recognized
for all they do to help people in this
community. This isn’t much, but it’s a small
token of our appreciation for all the
company does for Posey County,” said Second
Vice President M. Michelle Hudson.
Williams then returned to talk about pledges
for the 2006 campaign.
Neufelder offered a few remarks before
closing the annual meeting.
