Dent pled guilty last week to one count of
sexual battery, a Class D felony.
Dent was returned to Posey County after six
years.
A trial had previously been set for Aug
16-17, in Posey County Circuit Court.
On Aug. 8, Dent pled guilty to sexual
battery, but the remaining charges were
dropped pursuant to the sentencing
recommendation. Those charges include: count
two- battery, a Class B misdemeanor; count
three-sexual battery, a Class D felony; and
count four- battery, a Class B misdemeanor.
Dent was sentenced to nine months in the
Indiana Department of Corrections. He was
assessed a fine of $1, plus court costs of
$172, a probation fee of $100, an initial
probation user fee of $100, and a $250
Sexual Assault Victim’s fee.
In May, Posey County Sheriff’s Deputy Mark
Saltzman traveled to Miami, Fla., to bring
Dent back to Posey County.
A warrant was issued for his arrest in 2003
after he failed to appear in Posey County
Circuit Court. He failed to appear for a
pre-trial hearing on Feb. 18, 1999.
Dent was to be tried for two counts of
Sexual Battery, a Class D felony, and two
counts Battery, a Class B Misdemeanor.
The statute of limitations ran out, so the
county was not able to charge Dent with
fleeing law enforcement.
According to Posey County Prosecutor Jodi
Uebelhack, one of Dent’s alleged victims was
17 years of age, while the other was 19.
