Charles Wilson, age 96, of Mount Vernon, Ind., passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born February 6, 1916, in Farmersville, Ind., the son of Robert and Janie (Erwin) Wilson. He married Helen Walls on August 2, 1933, in Brownsville, Ill., and she preceded
him in death on December 31, 1997. Charles retired from the Indiana Farm Bureau where he worked as a mechanic. He also worked as a driver for the Posey County Co-op. Charles loved to camp and fish. He was an avid Cardinals fan, never missing a game. He played drums in a country band for many years. His greatest joy was taking care of his family and kids.
He is survived by two daughters, Wanda Bundy of Mount Vernon, Ind., and her husband Paul, who was Charles’ caregiver and considered a son, and Deena Wilson; two step-brothers, Paul Kuhn and Leonard Kuhn. Also surviving are five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; a son, George Edward “Butch” Wilson; a daughter, Doris Jane Shephard; a granddaughter, Kayla Wild; a brother, Alfred Wilson, and a step-brother, Johnny Kuhn.
A funeral service was held at noon on Thursday, July 26, 2012, at First Christian Church in Mount Vernon. Visitation was held in the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor John Hilbert will officiate, with Pastor Mark Tabor assisting. Burial took place in Union Ridge Cemetery near Herald, Ill. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church in Mount Vernon.
