Jack E. Scurlock, age 80 of Mount Vernon, Ind., died Tuesday morning July 24, 2012 at Deaconess Hospital. He was born July 26, 1931, in Indianapolis the son of Oscar A and Myrle E. (Lawrence) Scurlock. He married Marilyn J. Harper on December 17, 1952.
Jack retired after 10 years as a custodian at MSDS. He was a journeyman machinist for many years at Babcock and Wilcox in Mount Vernon. He served with the United States Marines during the Korean War. He loved carpentry and restoring old cars.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn; one daughter and son-in-law, Debra S. and John K. McNichols of Fishers, Ind.; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas K. and Betsy Scurlock of Evansille, Ind.; five grandchildren, Kevin (Lessika) Eck, Brittany E. (Jeremy) Haynes, Danae D. (Andy Wilson) McNichols, Delaney J. McNichols and Katie Elise Scurlock; two brothers, Bermond Scurlock of Enterprise, Ala., and Charles “Chuck” Scurlock of Tampa, Fla.; three sisters, Carolyn Nees of Centerpoint, Ind., Rosemary Vice of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Donna Jolly of Louisville, Ky. He was preceded in death by one brother, Don Scurlock and a sister, Joyce Smith.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday July 27, 2012, at the Austin~Stendeback Family Funeral Home at 1330 E. Fourth St., in Mount Vernon with burial in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
