It’s the competitive drive that keeps most athletes going year in and year out. This is definitely the case with golfer Trevor Grant.
Grant, a 2012 graduate of Mount Vernon High School, now takes his competitive spirit with him as he continues his golf career as a member of the Vincennes University Trailblazer golf team. And while a very small percentage of High School athletes get the chance to play college athletics, Grant is thankful for the opportunity to do so.
“It has been a great experience and a great honor to be able to play golf in college,” Grant said.
This early fall golf season has been a great one for Grant. In the opening to the Trailblazer season, Grant led his team to victory at the Battle at Bloomington, played on the Indiana University golf course. Grant shot a 71 overall and ended up winning the battle by one shot. More importantly, Grant’s performance helped his team place first out of six teams that were competing. Not bad for a freshman huh?
Grant grew up playing golf after his father introduced him to the sport. And ever since his father got him interested in playing, Grant could be found on the golf course working hard and competing.
“The reason why I keep playing golf is because I crave the competition,” Grant said. “I just love being on the golf course and testing my game against other great players.”
Grant has had many opportunities over the years to play against great competition. One of the highlights of Grant’s High School career was playing in the Evansville sectional at Fendrich Golf Course and shooting a 69 to become the runner up of the sectional. Those experiences helped make Grant a better player and helped to prepare him for his college golf career.
Grant looks forward to the rest of his golf and college career. And those of us here in Posey County look towards his continued success with Pride.
