Trail decision delayed
According to New Harmony Clerk-Treasurer Karla Atkins, the New Harmony Town Council voted to table any action until its December meeting regarding an additional 1.2 mile trail connecting with an existing 2.5 mile trail that runs along the river. The vote came during a special meeting, lasting about six or seven minutes, Atkins said, at Town Hall on Thursday afternoon. Between now and its December 20 meeting, Atkins’ office confirmed, the New Harmony Town Council will meet with the Parks Board for discussion on Thursday afternoon, December 6, with the time yet to be set.
No arrests at checkpoint
Indiana State Police and Posey County Sheriff’s Office conducted a sobriety checkpoint on SR 62 at Plaza Drive between midnight and 2 a.m. on Saturday evening. During the two hour period officers checked 61 drivers that passed through the checkpoint and didn’t find any impaired drivers. One driver was administered a field sobriety test and passed. Troopers did issue seven traffic warnings and one traffic ticket during the checkpoint.
Harness is honored
North Posey’s Wes Harness was selected as Channel 14 Student Athlete of the week. Wes’ interview will air Wednesday at 6 p.m. on Channel 14 news.
Historial Society has ideas
Just can’t think of the perfect gift for that history-loving family member? The Posey County Historical Society stands ready to help out with gift-giving ideas at the Society’s Open House and Book Sale on Sunday, December 9. The Open House and Book Sale has been set for 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Historical Society’s headquarters at Hedges Central (Door 4), west side of the building.
MVHS holiday concerts set
The MVHS Chamber Choir, Angelus and Cul will present their holiday concert on Sun., Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of St. Matthew’s Church, and the instrumental and vocal departments will present their Winter Concert on Mon., Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. in the MVHS Performing Arts Center. Admission to both concerts is free.
Bell ringers still needed
Bell ringers are needed for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign. We’ll be ringing bells on December 8, and 15 in Mount Vernon and Poseyville. Call Beth Russell at 812-838-6875 to reserve your time to ring a bell.
Demo Club Christmas Party
All are invited to the PC Democratic Women’s Club annual Christmas Party which will be held at the Posey County Senior Citizens Center, in Mount Vernon, Ind., on Thursday, December 6, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be provided. Everyone is asked to bring a side dish or dessert. Officers for 2013 will be installed. There will be a visit from Santa with gifts for children. Everyone is asked to bring canned goods for the local food bank, but there will be no other cost for the evening.
