North Posey Relay for Life team captains and committee members are searching for nominees for the annual courage award. This award is given to Posey County residents who are cancer survivors or are currently battling the disease. It is presented during the Relay for Life event on June 8.
A letter explaining why the nominee should receive the award can be mailed to Teri James, c/o American Cancer Society, 5250 Vogel Road, Suite A, Evansville, IN 47715.
With just two months before the big event, North Posey Relay for Life (NPRFL) teams are ramping up their fundraising efforts. There are numerous scheduled events and opportunities to help NPRFL meet their overall $83,000 goal. Cancer is not a solitary disease. It affects the victims it possesses, their caregivers, their families and friends and even the doctors who are tasked with devising a treatment plan to cure their patients.
Everyone can do something to get involved to fight for a cure. Support one of the many upcoming fundraisers, attend the Relay for Life event on June 8-9, volunteer to serve on the committee, or just donate to the cause.
Dollar General in Poseyville will hold its next bake sale on Saturday, April 13. They have also scheduled additional dates for Saturday, April 27, and Saturday, May 11. They welcome requests and orders for Mother’s Day. Visit the store on any of the mentioned dates and choose delicious treats with all the proceeds going to help their team goal.
The Schmitt family relay team is planning a special fundraiser night at Red Wagon in Poseyville on Tuesday, April 16, from 4 p.m.- 9 p.m. Present a special ticket to your server and a portion of your meal total will be donated to their team. Contact Deb Schmitt at 874-3482, Mary Peach at 483-0848, Judy Baehl at 568-3988, or any committee member for tickets.
Zion-Lippe United Church of Christ is sponsoring a fun-filled family event on Saturday, April 21, beginning at 11 a.m. Hamburgers, brats, potato salad, coleslaw, fruit pies and ice cream will be available to purchase. A free mini-Olympics event will begin at noon and will include a corn hole contest, ball games, clabber games, hula hoop contest, pie eating contest, all-age individual relay, all-age obstacle course and conclude with a winners’ ceremony at 4:30 p.m.
The event is open to the public. Any questions regarding this event can be directed to Marilyn Smith at 985-8427 or Mary Jane Schroeder at 985-9422.
Community State Bank (CSB) is sponsoring their annual hanging flower basket fundraiser now through April 26. Wave petunias are available in violet, red, pink or simply Picasso (purple outside and lime green inside). Million Belle colors available include yellow, purple, orange and red. Ivy geranium in red and pink are also available. All hanging baskets cost $20.
Individual geranium plants are available in red, pink, coral and white for $4 each. Flower orders can be picked up on Friday, May 3 or Saturday, May 4. Order forms are available at CSB.
In addition, Tri-Kappa, CSB and St. Francis relay teams are currently hosting Tupperware fundraisers. Anyone interested in placing an order should contact Tri-Kappa team captain, Angela Wiley at 682-4215, St. Francis team captain, Jeri Ziliak at 449-7445 or visit CSB for order forms.
Two donation campaigns that anyone can contribute to on event day are canned food and quarter donations. Canned food is used to help weigh down the luminary bags. The food is later donated to the various food pantries within Posey County. Quarters are used in the “Got a quarter, give a quarter” campaign in which they are placed in a line around the track. The goal is to circle the track with quarters, thereby raising additional funds.
To date, a total of $22,312.03 has been raised.
