Recently, two (2) convicted Sex Offenders were sentenced in the Posey County Circuit Court and the Posey County Superior Court.
On September 11, 2013, Orley Yarber was sentenced by the Honorable James Redwine in the Posey County Circuit Court to serve twenty (20) years in prison. Yarber was originally arrested and charged with County 1: Rape, a Class B Felony and Count 2: Incest, a Class C Felony. The Posey County Prosecutor’s Office later added the Habitual Offender charge alleging that Yarber had previously been convicted of Theft and Residential Entry.
Prosecutor Travis Clowers took the case before a Posey County Jury on August 8 and 9, 2013 and he was found guilty as charged. Judge Redwine sentenced Yarber to ten (10) years for the Rape conviction and four (4) years for the Incest conviction and ordered that the sentences be served concurrently. Judge Redwine also enhanced the sentence by an additional ten (10) years given Yarber’s Habitual Offender status.
Prosecutor Travis Clowers asked that Yarber be sentenced to the maximum sentence for the charge of Rape given the facts and circumstances of his crimes. Clowers further stated that he was “satisfied that the twenty (20) year sentence would ensure that Yarber is removed from our Community and is unable to harm any other women.”
On September 12, 2013, Jeremy Dorris Jones was sentenced by the Honorable Brent Almon in the Posey County Superior Court to serve ten (10) years in prison. Jones was arrested and charged with Count 1: Child Molesting, a Class A Felony; and County 2: Incest, a Class B Felony. The victim, a twelve (12) year old female family member at the time of the offense, reported to members of the Warrick County Sheriff’s Department in June of 2012 that Jones had forced her to submit to sexual intercourse in Posey County in April of 2001. Jones was found to be twenty-three (23) years old at the time of the sexual offense. Jones pled guilty to Child Molesting, a Class B Felony, and the charge of Incest was dismissed.
