Remembering back when
George Niles owned and operated the Niles
Drug Store where Joe Reynold’s Drug Store is
now; when Matt Weatherly had a barber shop
on Main Street; the old Post Office was on
the South West corner of Main and Locust
Street; the McElory frozen meat locker house
was on Locust Street just North of the
former Nix Motor Sales; in the 1930’s,when
George Waters, the co-owner of Bozeman
Waters National Bank had the only Cadillac
car in Poseyville; when John Uncles had a
garage on Main Street where McCullough’s
parts and service are now located; when the
auto dealership was in the same building
where Al’s Place is now on Main and Walker
Streets; when our new Poseyville School was
built in 1912 on Fletchall Avenue; when the
Frank Smith Service Station was on the spot
where One Stop Mart and Gas Station is now,
on the corner of SR 168 and 165. Now
according to the Labor Department the US has
lost 51,000 more jobs in July of this year.
Elsewhere, Dickie
Brandenstein from Winchester, TN was in this
area last week and he and Billy Ray were
here Monday, August 11 to visit me. He and
his family are doing well. I was happy to
have them drop in. Wednesday, I talked on
the phone to Bonnie, Betty, Janet, and
Lorena. August 14 was Billy’s Birthday.
Janet called me that day to remind me that
it was his birthday (which I had indeed
remembered). I visited John and Joy Straw
Thursday for awhile. John and I worked
together at Nix Motor Sales several years
ago. Don Steirley came by to visit while I
was there. Also Bonnie, Jacob, Betty, and
Jesse were here to mow the lawn and to do
some other chores. And yes, they had
prepared some food for me.
Friday, Bill and Judy
Thompson called me and said they were on
their way to Rend Lake for the weekend.
Their daughter and son-in-law, Erica and
Tony, and boys as well as Billy and Laura
Thompson joined them at the lake later on.
They returned home Sunday afternoon.
I also talked to my
sister-in-law, Lorena Wilder Friday and she
said her grandson Mike Creek from
Indianapolis was here to visit his mother
Anaveieve Creek and Lorena.
Friday was also the day I
visited at the Allison Healthcare and also
at the New Harmony Healthcare. At New
Harmony I visited with Bob Field, Rosina
Koch, Gloria Cox, Norma Hidbrader, Charles
Campbell, Harold Kemmerling, Eva Causey, Jim
Benton, Bob Worman, Richard Jackson, and
Tilly Lupfer. Gerald Taylor was asleep so I
missed him, but as I left I met Beverly and
Gerald Jr. so I talked to them.
Saturday was the annual
Poseyville Christian Church Chowder. I heard
that they made around 150 gallons and sold
out by 12:20p. It was reported at church
that they took in $2,066. A big thanks to
all who donated, worked, and brought
ingredients for the chowder, and also to the
public for the patronage for buying the
delicious chowder.
At 3:00p Sunday the
family of Lillan Butler gathered at
Allison’s Healthcare where she is a
resident. Sunday August 17th is her 98th
Birthday, so her children Steve and Brenda
had a Birthday party for her, complete with
a beautiful cake. Those present besides
Lillian were Brenda Butler Boman, Steve and
Linda Butler, Doris and Maxine Butler,
Rodger and Mike Butler, Sarianne (Butler)
Williams, Kate Butler, Valorie Price, Billy
and Norma Sue Butler, John and Sharron
Matsel, Vicki (Butler) Theims, and I. We all
had a good time together. We all sang Happy
Birthday to Lillian and she received many
cards.
Sunday night, both Judy
Thompson and Janet Woolsey called me on the
phone.
Poseyville regular gas
price as of Monday, August 18th is $3.759.
Poseyville had no rain
last week so the total rain so far in August
remains at 1.30."
Bible Quote for the week
is: "Let us not love in word or in tongue,
but in deed and in truth." 1 John 3:18
Be in the church of your choice next
Sunday.
